1. Informative Note on CE Certification
KONG products certified under the 89/686/EEC Directive require careful attention and understanding. Before using the harness, read the instructions thoroughly. Rock climbing, ice climbing, rope descents, via ferrata, speleology, alpine skiing, canoeing, exploration, rescue work, and working at heights pose significant risks, including fatal accidents. Users must be trained and fully comprehend the harness's operation. You are responsible for understanding its use and safety measures, and any damage or injury incurred from using KONG products falls under your responsibility. If uncertain, do not take risks; seek guidance.
2. General Information
2.1 Conduct all checks as outlined in the "instructions for use" before every use. Ensure the harness is:
- In excellent condition and functioning correctly.
- Suitable for your intended use. Unauthorized uses are strictly prohibited.
2.2 Replace the harness if you suspect safety issues. Do not use after a fall as it may have hidden damage. Avoid incorrect use, mechanical deformation, accidental drops, wear, chemical contamination, and exposure to extreme temperatures (max 100°C for metal parts, max 50°C for fabric parts), which can impair the harness’s safety.
2.3 Users are responsible for correct use.
2.4 The harness can be used with other individual protective devices conforming to the 89/686/EEC Directive, provided instructions are followed.
2.5 The stability of natural anchorages is not guaranteed; assess them yourself for adequate protection.
2.6 For fall protection:
- Anchor points should ideally be above the user.
- Use a complete safety belt.
- Minimize potential fall distances and heights.
2.7 Proper anchorage positioning is crucial. Assess fall height, cord length, and "pendulum" effects to avoid obstacles.
2.8 Regularly check the efficiency of your equipment. Pre- and post-use checks by a qualified person are recommended. An annual overhaul by a manufacturer’s technician is advised. Keep records of checks and maintenance.
2.9 KONG S.p.A. is not liable for damages, injuries, or death caused by improper use, modifications, unauthorized repairs, or non-original spare parts.
2.10 Transport without special precautions but avoid chemical exposure and protect sharp parts. Do not leave equipment in parked cars under the sun.
2.11 Dealers must provide translated instructions for products sold outside of KONG S.p.A.'s selected countries.
3. Maintenance and Storage
3.1 Clean frequently by rinsing with lukewarm water (max. 40°C) and a mild detergent (neutral soap). Dry naturally away from direct heat sources.
3.2 Lubricate moving parts with silicone-based oil, avoiding contact with fabric parts. Perform this after cleaning and drying.
3.3 For disinfection, soak in lukewarm water with disinfectant containing quaternary ammonium salts for an hour. Rinse, dry, and lubricate.
3.4 Store in a dry, cool, dark place, away from UV rays, chemicals, sharp edges, heat sources, and humidity. Avoid storing when wet.
4. Testing and Certification
Certified by TUV Product Service GMBH (Notified Body 0123) in Munich, Germany, and supervised by ITALCERT (Notified Body 0426) in Milan, Italy. Conforms to UNI EN ISO 9001 standards and the 89/686/EEC Directive. Testing and inspection results may vary in practice; seek guidance from qualified instructors for best practices. The harness is compatible with tape longes “YAKU” and “ARO TUBULAR,” and is not recommended for dirty, oily, muddy, or icy ropes. It should not be used directly on wire cables.
5. Pre and Post Use Checks
Ensure the harness:
- Shows no mechanical deformation.
- Is free of cracks or wear, especially in rope contact areas.
6. Product Life
The harness has a recommended lifespan of 5 years from first use, but this may be shortened by harsh conditions such as exposure to salt, chemicals, mud, sand, snow, and ice.
Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines to ensure proper use and maintenance of the harness.
